The death of George Michael may have stunned the celebrity world and, of course, the fans, but we never forget the time when he openly admitted his liking to cannabis. The Guardian article dated October 21, 2006 has brought the nostalgic feeling during the time when most, if not all, governments in the world were against cannabis.

However, Michael openly talked about smoking pot as if he was with a friend doing the joint with him.

“This stuff(cannabis) keeps me sane and happy. I could write without it … if I were sane and happy. I’d say it’s a great drug – but obviously it’s not very healthy. You can’t afford to smoke it if you’ve got anything else to do.”

Even though he praised cannabis, he also included a warning:

“It (cannabis) can be a terrible, terrible drug. You’ve got to be in the right position to take it. You’ve got to have achieved most of your ambitions because it chills you out to such a degree that you could lose your ambitions.”

Remember, this was the time when most of the world didn’t know yet about the medicinal benefits of cannabis. You could forgive George Michael for saying that cannabis “is a great drug– but it’s not very healthy”. There could be a possible contention to that. But our unlucky stars told us recently that the pop superstar passed away at age 53. Rest in peace, George Michael.

Rumors have been circulating that he went to harder drugs. Also, the Careless Whisper singer is HIV+ positive. Whatever the cause of his death, his legacy would still leave on as he passed the torch to someone who could be as great as him, having sold millions of albums and who, to certain a degree that we favor, could be brazen enough to honestly confess about his marijuana relationship.
