Leslie Bocksor Interview: Advisors for Medical and Recreational Cannabis and its Ancillary Businesses

Leslie Bocskor is the President of Electrum Partners, an advisory services firm specializing in medical and recreational cannabis and ancillary businesses.

We recently invited Nathaniel for a Q&A session to talk about his background and his company Electrum Partners.


Ganjly: What is your background and what made you decide to pursue a career in cannabis?

Leslie Bocksor: I come from Wall Street and saw the rise of digital media and got interested in disruptive markets. Leveraging my technology background, I landed to Nevada as online gaming was promising to change the casino industry. Quickly I realized that nothing was going to change the trajectory of Las Vegas like cannabis. The rest is history.

Ganjly: How many employees do you have and what kind of traits do you look for when hiring new members?

Leslie Bocksor: We are a lean team of 12 and growing. We look for culture fit, tenacity, and ideas. If you took the Apple Crazy One’s commercial to heart and you have a track record in sales, marketing, finance, retail, or consulting, then we want to talk.

Ganjly: What is the most challenging experience you have had in the cannabis industry so far?

Leslie Bocksor: There have been many; the entrepreneurial path is not for the faint of heart. It is filled with challenges on a regular basis. I would say, the single biggest of these has been consistently seeing the positive outcomes that can be attained regardless of the challenge that is being presented. This will never change. I know, although the paths of our business will always progress, that just means new challenges. New obstacles we have to overcome. This is why living in the solution is the challenge I work on every day.

Ganjly: What is your proudest moment since you started down this path of being an entrepreneur in the cannabis space?

Leslie Bocksor: Every day, to come in and work in this industry that is just getting started, help create new businesses, help entrepreneurs find their path and navigate to success, and doing it with people I am proud to call “colleague,” well, truth be told, I am favored every day. I am part of something so much bigger than me. I am honored to work with amazing positive people who make the world better. And, if in some way, I get to add my shoulder to it, well that is a life worth living.

Ganjly: Do you have plans for new products, services or events and would you be willing to drop any hints about what we can expect from your company in the future?

Leslie Bocksor: We see some exciting synergy between our industry and the emerging technology around tokennomics. 

Ganjly: What is your advice for hopeful cannabis entrepreneurs who are considering joining the cannabis industry? What are the positives and negatives they should expect?

Leslie Bocksor: There is more help in everything from managing the regulatory framework to best practices in cultivation then there was a few years ago. At Electrum Partners, we are seeing some great owner-operators who have had successful exits in other industries entering this space, and we anticipate a continued growing up of the industry.
