Chris Whitener is the Executive Director of @MagicalButter. The MagicalButter machine is the world’s first countertop botanical extractor, designed for creating recipes, infusing the essence of healthy herbs like cannabis, sage, lavender, etc into butter, oil, grain alcohol, lotions, and more.

We recently invited Chris for a Q&A session to talk about his background and his company, MagicalButter.

Ganjly: What is your background?

Chris Whitener: I came from a hospitality background, as a server and bartender. While a mixologist at a posh resort, I perfected the craft of infusing alcohol with fruits. I happened to concoct some of my famous recipes, including apple cinnamon whiskey, espresso vodka, and pineapple rum, in an original Botanical Extractor from MagicalButter. Using the MB machine behind the bar and sharing its amazing capabilities with resort guests eventually led to getting my foot in the door at the company. At a trade show in Seattle in 2012, I met the machine’s inventor who, soon after, invited me to join the MagicalButter team.

Ganjly: What inspires your work with MagicalButter?

Chris Whitener: I am inspired by the power of plants and the needs of all people. I am on a personal quest to understand the world and do my part to make a positive impact. I do my best to “spread” the passion I have for MagicalButter, like warm butter on breakfast toast. I have surrendered to love and will continue to inspire my teammates and customers. is bigger than a brand, it is a way for family and friends to come together and share our love for plants and food. We experience many of our most cherished moments in life while preparing and sharing meals. has inspired me to inspire others.

Ganjly: What is the most challenging experience you have had in the cannabis industry so far?

Chris Whitener: The most challenging experience that no one would anticipate is managing communication and time. Effective communication is crucial when dealing with all people in your life, whether you are presenting to a group or speaking one on one with a patient or peer. Listening and empathy are key. Giving people the tools to change their lives and the platform to tell their stories is amazing.

Ganjly: Tell us more about the charities and organizations you work with. What is Cheers to Goodness?

Cheers to Goodness is a special non-profit charity program that our founder Garyn Angel believes in, deeply. We are very excited for the upcoming year and all of the new life-enhancing products we can bring to the table. We are also actively looking for chefs to come create masterpieces in The MagicalButter Kitchen! We invite all chefs to apply on our website at for the chance of a lifetime to come create unique infused meals in our studio!

Ganjly: What is your advice for hopeful cannabis entrepreneurs who are considering joining the cannabis industry? What are the positives and negatives they should expect?

Chris Whitener: Do it! If you are considering jumping into this exciting industry, I would say go for it—define your mission and make sure you are doing something you truly love or are good at. Always stay humble and do not forget to continue building meaningful relationships. The people you meet will be potential collaborators and friends for life. We all can work together and impact the world in a major way. If you are a potential cannabis entrepreneur and are looking to start a business for the first time, you’ll find incredible information by listening to others. Be passionate about the plant and dedicate yourself to learning as much as possible. I do not foresee any negative expectations nor should you—break the stigma with your light. You are the one who can make a difference. To quote Ram Dass, “It is important to expect nothing, to take every experience, including the negative ones, as merely steps on the path, and to proceed.”
