Zane Witzel is the CEO and Founder of Cannador. His company manufactures and sells uniquely designed, high-end storage products and accessories in the cannabis lifestyle market. Witzel is passionate about challenging the way we interact with cannabis, and he enjoys working closely with engineers and designers to create new, exciting, sustainably produced products.

We recently invited Zane for a Q&A session to talk about his background and his company Cannador.

Ganjly: What is your background and what made you decide to pursue a career in cannabis?

Zane Witzel: My background is in entertainment. I studied film and television production at Pepperdine University and briefly worked on commercials in Hollywood before shifting gears into business and getting an MBA at the Drucker School of Business at Claremont Graduate University.

Ganjly: What are your best practices for cannabis storage?

Zane Witzel: One, the relative humidity should remain consistent between 55% to 62% RH by using either a patented humidity bead technology called Vapor Beads or using humidity packs, like those made by Boveda. Two, the flower should not exposed to any light such as UV light. And three, the temperature should remain stable between 60F to 70F.

Ganjly: What is the most challenging experience Cannador has had in the cannabis industry so far?

Zane Witzel: Advertising and promotion. Many of the publishers today with platforms that completely match our demographic still want nothing to do with cannabis.

Ganjly: What is your proudest moment since you started down this path of being an entrepreneur in the cannabis space?

Zane Witzel: My proudest moment was to commit to actually getting this idea out of my head and successfully executing it. That was, by far, the hardest part for me, executing my vision and making it commercially viable.

Ganjly: Do you have plans for new products, services or events and would you be willing to drop any hints about what we can expect from Cannador in the future?

Zane Witzel: We get asked a lot by dispensaries and home-growers if we have a product that can cure up to a pound, so we’re working on a prosumer model that can address this need in a more sophisticated manner than what’s currently available.

Ganjly: What is your advice for hopeful cannabis entrepreneurs who are considering joining the cannabis industry? What are the positives and negatives they should expect?

Zane Witzel: If you love the plant, then nothing can stop you because that’s what this industry is all about! Expect that not everyone will agree with your decision to create something in this space and you may even get resistance from people close to you. One-third of this country is still not on board with legalization, so talking with those that don’t want to see cannabis de-scheduled can be a sensitive subject. Avoid the news, keep your head down and focus on what’s most important to your business.
