Dr. Andrew Kerklaan, President & Founder of @DrKerklaan Therapeutics, a robust line of doctor-designed, lab-tested, patient-approved cannabis products that provide pain relief, sleep aid, PMS relief, and skin health.

We recently invited Dr. Kerklaan for a Q&A session to talk about his background and his company Dr. Kerklaan Therapeutics.

Ganjly: What is your background and what made you decide to pursue a career in cannabis?

Dr. Andrew Kerklaan: 20 years of practice treating pain. Many patients asking about the potential of cannabis to help them. It became obvious that there was an opportunity to help people by combining my clinical experience with the therapeutic potential of helping people with cannabis. Topical cannabis products were the logical extension of my clinical work.

Ganjly: How many employees do you have and what kind of traits do you look for when hiring new members?

Dr. Andrew Kerklaan: We have 10 people working in the company or consulting for us. The team will grow quickly as we expand this year.

Ganjly: What is the most challenging experience you have had in the cannabis industry so far?

Dr. Andrew Kerklaan: The biggest challenge so far has been with new regulations in the California industry. The industry is in a big upheaval time and we are navigating the water. So far things are going well.

Ganjly: What is your proudest moment since you started down this path of being an entrepreneur in the cannabis space?

Dr. Andrew Kerklaan: My proudest moment has been hearing from people who have benefitted from our products. It makes all the work worthwhile. I love the feedback we get from social media and phone calls!

Ganjly: Do you have plans for new products, services or events and would you be willing to drop any hints about what we can expect from your company in the future?

Dr. Andrew Kerklaan: Our product categories were developed to have non-psychoactive topicals and then have the opportunity to add psycho-active edibles. Sleep and Pain are well positioned for this.

Ganjly: What is your advice for hopeful cannabis entrepreneurs who are considering joining the cannabis industry? What are the positives and negatives they should expect?

Dr. Andrew Kerklaan: The race is on. You have to be able to compete. It takes money and relationships. Like any entrepreneurial endeavor, this industry has its ups and downs but they are amplified by the regulations!

Thank you, Dr. Kerklaan for taking the time out to talk to us!
